Course objective & result

This course is intended for High Pressure Operators who are required to hold a valid SIR certificate to perform their work. During the course, participants learn how to work safely and correctly with high-pressure equipment, fully in accordance with SIR safety standards.

After completing the course and successfully passing the examination, the participant receives the SIR High Pressure Certificate, which is valid for five years.

Target group

This course is intended for employees who perform high-pressure cleaning using automated or mechanical cleaning applications.

 

Course objective

A High Pressure Operator works with mechanical or automated tools such as hose insertion machines, tank cleaning heads, and wall/floor cleaners. Working safely is essential to prevent (serious) accidents.

This high-pressure course prepares employees to work with high-pressure installations in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines, including:

  • Recognising risks
  • Working safely with high-pressure equipment
  • Safe cooperation when working with high-pressure equipment

 

Learning outcomes

After completing this high-pressure course, a High Pressure Operator is able to:

  • Identify and use various spraying tools and installations
  • Work safely with mechanical cleaning equipment such as hose insertion machines
  • Identify and control risks to people, installations, and the environment
  • Supervise the safe demarcation of the work area
  • Act appropriately in the event of incidents such as leaks, blockages, or malfunctions

 

Qualification

By completing this high-pressure course and successfully passing the examination, participants obtain the SIR High Pressure certificate.

Layout

  • What does the SIR High Pressure Operator (HDO) course look like?

    This high-pressure course covers both theory and practice of working with high-pressure equipment in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines.

     

    Theory

    • Operator: You operate specialised equipment for industrial cleaning
    • Safe working practices: Identifying risks in advance, such as entrapment or hose recoil
    • Equipment: Including automatic hose insertion systems, rotating tank washing heads, and fixed lances
    • Incidents: Knowing how to respond when a hose becomes stuck, leaks occur, or equipment malfunctions
    • Work area: Ensuring proper demarcation, adequate lighting, and clear signalling for colleagues and bystanders

     

    Practical

    During the course, participants practise:

    • Operating a hose insertion machine or tank cleaning head
    • Applying safety measures during high-pressure work with machinery
    • Identifying and resolving malfunctions in the installation
    • Correctly preparing work activities based on the SIR checklist

     

    The SIR examination

    The course is concluded with a theoretical and practical examination. Participants demonstrate that they can work independently and safely with mechanical tools for high-pressure cleaning, in accordance with SIR requirements.

    Possession of VCA Basic, VCA VOL, or equivalent qualification

     

    Possession of a valid High Pressure Operator (HDO) certificate

     

    Bring required PPE for core High Pressure Operator tasks

     

    Presentation of a valid original identification prior to the examination

     

    Completion of the High Pressure Operator course (5 half-day sessions)
