Target group

This course is intended for High Pressure Operators who independently operate high-pressure installations and supervise colleagues during specialist cleaning operations.

Course objective

A High Pressure Operator Machinist works with advanced high-pressure installations and is responsible for both operating equipment and guiding colleagues during high-pressure activities. Working safely is essential to prevent (serious) accidents.

This high-pressure course prepares employees to work with high-pressure installations in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines, including:

  • Recognising risks
  • Working safely with high-pressure equipment
  • Safe cooperation when working with high-pressure equipment

Learning outcomes

After completing this high-pressure course, a High Pressure Operator Machinist is able to:

  • Select the correct installation and cleaning method for a specific task
  • Supervise colleagues and ensure safe execution of work
  • Set up and operate equipment such as tank cleaning heads or hose insertion machines
  • Apply control measures in the event of malfunctions, leaks, or damage to installations
  • Inspect whether work can safely commence using the SIR checklist

Qualification

By completing this high-pressure course and successfully passing the examination, participants obtain the SIR High Pressure certificate.

Layout

  • What does the SIR High Pressure Operator Machinist (HDO-M) combined course look like?

This high-pressure course covers both theory and practice of working with high-pressure equipment in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines. The combined programme consists of:

    E-learning

Prior to the classroom training days, participants must complete an e-learning module as mandatory pre-study. This e-learning must be successfully completed before participation in the classroom sessions is allowed.

After completing the e-learning, participants continue directly with day two of the full three-day classroom course. The combined course therefore consists of one e-learning module and two classroom training days, including the official SIR examination on the final day.

    Theory

    • Machine operator and operator: You operate and supervise; you are responsible for the entire process
    • Work assignment: Translating this into a concrete task distribution and verifying compliance with requirements
    • Supervision: Ensuring everyone knows what needs to be done, works safely, and uses the correct equipment
    • Control measures: Acting quickly and safely when issues arise
    • Checklist: Verifying safe start-up – from site demarcation to hose positioning

    Practical

    During the course, participants practise:

    • Setting up and operating the complete high-pressure installation
    • Performing work preparation and providing instructions
    • Resolving malfunctions during operations
    • Applying a safe work layout and effective communication with team members

    The SIR examination

The examination consists of a theoretical and practical component, demonstrating that participants can work independently, responsibly, and in accordance with SIR guidelines, while also supervising others.

The full final and assessment requirements are published on the SIR website.
