Course objective & result

This combined SIR course is intended for professionals working with high pressure installations who wish to obtain or renew their High Pressure Supervisor (THD) certification and/or renew their High Pressure Operator Machinist (HDO-MV) certificate. Upon successful completion of the course and the corresponding SIR exam, participants will receive the relevant SIR certificate, valid for 5 years.

Target group

This course is intended for:

  • THD: Supervisors responsible for safe working practices with high pressure installations and compliance with SIR guidelines.
  • HDO-MV: Experienced high pressure operator machinists who wish to renew their SIR certificate and safely operate high pressure installations.

 

Course objective

Both the High Pressure Supervisor (THD) and the High Pressure Operator Machinist (HDO-MV) play a crucial role in the safe execution of high pressure operations. Insufficient supervision or improper use of installations can lead to serious incidents.

This course supports participants in fulfilling their role responsibly and in accordance with SIR guidelines, with a focus on:

  • Identifying and controlling risks;
  • Correctly applying and enforcing SIR guidelines;
  • Safely preparing, organizing and executing high pressure operations;
  • Communicating effectively and intervening to prevent incidents.

 

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, participants are able to:

  • Apply knowledge of SIR guidelines for high pressure operations.
  • Correctly implement SIR guidelines in practice, according to their specific role (THD or HDO-MV).
  • Demonstrate insight into the tasks, responsibilities and authorities of supervisors and operator-machinists.
  • Safely prepare, organize and carry out high pressure operations.
  • Safely operate, inspect and assess high pressure installations.
  • Provide supervision and communicate effectively to prevent risks and incidents.

 

Qualification

By successfully completing this course and the corresponding SIR exam, participants obtain or renew the relevant SIR certificate:

  • SIR High Pressure Supervisor (THD)
  • SIR High Pressure Operator Machinist Renewal (HDO-MV)

The certificate is valid for 5 years.

Layout

  • What does the SIR THD and/or HDO-MV course look like?

    This classroom-based course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of safe working with high pressure installations, in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines. The course consists of:

     

    Theory

    • Roles and responsibilities: differences and interaction between supervisory and operational tasks.
    • SIR guidelines: knowledge of the guidelines and monitoring and enforcing compliance.
    • Work permits and preparation: interpreting work permits, risk levels and boundary conditions.
    • Risks and prevention: assessing risks based on location, method, installation and team.
    • PPE and team composition: assessing whether correct equipment and staffing are in place for each risk level.

     

    Practical

    During the course, participants practice:

    • Assessing work situations and risk levels.
    • Safely operating and inspecting high pressure installations.
    • Supervising LMRA’s and setting up work area barriers.
    • Giving clear instructions and intervening in unsafe situations.

     

    The SIR exam

    • The training concludes with a theory exam, which tests knowledge of SIR guidelines, risk control and the safe execution of high pressure operations.
    • The full assessment and attainment criteria are determined by SIR and are available via the SIR website.

    This course is delivered in a classroom setting at our location in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. You will work in a small group under the guidance of experienced trainers from the field. The classroom format allows for personal attention, practice-oriented exercises and interaction, enabling immediate application of theory in realistic situations.
