Training objective & result:

This SIR training is designed for Pressure/Vacuum Assistans who support the machine operator during pressure and vacuum operations and who require a valid SIR certificate. During the training, participants acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively support pressure/vacuum activities, fully in accordance with the SIR guidelines.

After successfully completing the examination, participants receive the official SIR Pressure/Vacuum Assistant certificate, which is valid for five years.

This training is intended for entry-level employees who provide support during pressure and vacuum operations.

 

Training objective

As a Pressure/Vacuum assistant, you support the machine operator during pressure and vacuum operations. Working safely is essential to prevent (serious) accidents. This training focuses on the basid knowledge and skills required to provide safe and effective support.

Key focus areas include:

  • Recognising risks
  • Safe working with high-pressure equipment
  • Safe cooperation when working with high-pressure equipment

 

Learning outcomes

After completing this training, a Pressure/Vacuum Assistant is able to:

  • Explain what pressure and vacuum operations involve
  • Describe the responsibilities of the machine operator, assistant, and emergency stop operator
  • Recognise physical risks and describe appropriate control measures
  • Explain the operation and use of the emergency stop
  • Understand key points of attention when cleaning the vacuum tank

 

Qualification

By completing this Pressure/Vacuum training and successfully passing the examination, participants obtain the SIR High-Pressure certificate.

Layout

  • What does the SIR Pressure/Vacuum assistant (DVH) training look like?

    This one-day training covers both theory and practice related to supporting pressure and vacuum operations in accordance with the latest SIR guidelines.

     

    Theoretical component

    • Pressure/vacuum: extracting or relocating substances using pressure or vacuum
    • Safety: preventing falls, crushing hazards, and exposure
    • Emergency stop: can be activated remotely to immediately stop unsafe situations
    • Behaviour: addressing unsafe behaviour helps prevent accidents
    • Work area: must be solid, level, and safely organised

     

    Practical component

    During the training, participants practise:

    • Correctly demarcating and organising the work area
    • Working safely around suction inlets and moving parts
    • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with guidelines
    • Cooperation and communication during operations

     

    The SIR examination

    • The training is concluded with a theoretical examination in accordance with SIR guidelines
    • The full final and assessment requirements are published on the SIR website

    In possession of a valid VCA Basic, VCA VOL, or equivalent qualification

    Sufficient proficiency in the exam language, both spoken and written

  • Classroom training

    This course is delivered classroom-based at our in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. Participants work in small groups under the guidance of experienced instructors from the field. The classroom format allows for personal attention, practice-oriented exercises, and direct interaction with the trainer. This ensures that participants not only understand the theory but also apply it immediately in realistic working situations.
